C&D style; this blend smokes down to the last puff leaving a fine volcanic type ash that won't plug up the bowl. Although this tobacco has a very high Latakia content it is not overwhelming. I had been curious to try a "lat-bomb" and this certainly seemed to be held in high esteem by many so I gave it a shot. I've readjusted the ratings and highly recommend this blend very much. The turkish offers nice counterpoint, but no standard campfire, woody, earthy et al aromas to be had on this trip. Being a Pirate Kake fan I'm starting to love some of the Captain Earle's offerings more and more. Edit: It should have a bit of dry time. It is not biting my tongue at all, and I am puffing the Dickens out of the bacci. I kept seeing this in all the pipe smoking groups so I thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. This is not a great mixture but a great mistake. Im gonna go pack some mor e and have another bowl. That said, its a heavy Latakia Mixture that is tasty. I would not reccomend it as a first smoke but after a month or so give it a shot. For a cigar smoker I think latakia is the way to go - Its a stronger flavor and extremely relaxing, that virginia stuff does not compare! I love Latakia. This blend does it excellently! Easy to break off and prepare in your pipe. Now as excited as I was about all the hype I jarred it as soon as I opened it and promptly rubbed some out and filled my bowl. If I were making an algorithm, I'd be able to tease out who is being pumped by some reviewers vs those doing it for love of hobby. The cake / brownie is easily dismantled into crumbs that are easily loaded into the pipe. I like Burley tobaccos as well, I just don't think this blend uses it well. Such a concentration of LAtakia becomes unidimensional after a while, so it would gain to be mixed with something else to bring variety to it. It lit up very easily with no dry time and even though the taste was a single note it was not at all overwhelming . i have found this one to be better if smoked only from time to time, and not as a good daily smoke, as more than one bowl in a day leaves the mouth unable to taste anything else for several hours. It doesn't do anything that would keep me coming back to it. It took a little work to get it going, but once lit, it stayed that way. But not just any Latakia. I like to smoke upon occasion - not something I break out often but when I do I really enjoy it. And this from a lady who smokes Balkan and English blends herself. Bottom line: If you love a big dose of Latakia, then run and get some, if you don't this one may change your mind! The smell in the tin is not very very strong.
